TOM DORAN
Assistant Coach

Tom Doran enters his second season as an Assistant Coach for the Williams College men’s basketball program in 2024-25.

The 2023-24 Ephs earned the No. 1 seed and hosted the NESCAC Tournament at Chandler Gymnasium in Williamstown, Massachusetts, as Williams advanced to the conference title game. The Ephs went 23-7 overall and 9-1 in conference, as the unit won a pair of NCAA Tournament games and advanced all the way to the Sweet 16. The squad also earned a share of the Little Three crown. The Ephs defeated then-No. 4-ranked Trinity, 55-54, in thrilling fashion on Feb. 2 at Chandler, as the team overcame a six-point deficit in the final minute.

Doran comes to Williams after spending one season as Video Coordinator for the Princeton University men’s basketball team and three-and-a-half years as a Student Manager for the men’s basketball program at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Doran’s one season on staff at Princeton saw the Tigers have their best season in 56 years. Princeton finished the season, 23-9, winning the Ivy League regular-season and playoff tournament titles for the first time since 2017. As a No. 15 seed in the NCAA Tournament, Princeton upset the No. 2 seed, Arizona Wildcats, and No. 7 seed, Missouri Tigers, before falling to the No. 6 seed, Creighton Bluejays, in the Sweet 16. The 2022-23 Tigers' roster included First Team All-Ivy selection Tosan Evbuomwan, Second Team All-Ivy honoree Matt Allocco and Ivy League Rookie of the Year Caden Pierce. Evbuomwan is currently under contract for the Detroit Pistons.

At Princeton, Doran’s duties included assisting with opponents’ scouts, evaluating recruits and filming and cutting practice and game footage. Doran also had a hand in operations of the program, ranging from travel and team meals to recruits’ official visits.

At Wake Forest, Doran’s duties included managing practice and game-day operations, travel, nutrition and hydration, filming practice, player development and the operation of fellow student managers. Doran assisted in the development of future NBA players, including 2022 first-round pick Jake Laravia (Memphis), 2022 ACC Player of the Year Alondes Williams (Brooklyn), Jaylen Hoard (Oklahoma City), Olivier Sarr (Portland) and Chaundee Brown (Atlanta). Doran spent his first two years working under head coach Danny Manning and his last year and a half under Manning’s successor, Steve Forbes, the 2021-22 ACC Coach of the Year.

During his college summers, Doran served as the Staffing Director for Hoop Group Elite camps in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. In the role, he was responsible for staffing the camps with Division II, Division III and AAU coaches (2021), interned for Princeton men’s basketball where he aided in the organization's recruiting and evaluation of prospects (2020) and worked basketball camps at Providence, Princeton and Wake Forest (2019).

Doran hails from Princeton, New Jersey, where he was a 2018 graduate of Princeton High School. In December 2021, he graduated cum laude from Wake Forest with a degree in politics and international affairs and a Minor in Spanish.
